What’s an electric skateboard?

An electric skateboard is a motorized skateboard that is powered by a battery. Like an automobile, depending on the make and model, some electric skateboards can travel approximately 10 to 20 miles on a single charge, attain speeds of 10 mph to 20 plus mph. Some electric skateboards have swappable battery packs to extend travel time, and some do not. Average recharging time is from 2, 5 to 8 hours depending on make and model.

What are the basic elements of the electric skateboard? An electric skateboard has five basic parts: the electric motor, the battery that powers the electric motor, the deck, the wheels, and the trucks, which connect the wheels to the skateboard and allow the rider to maneuver forward, backward, left and right.

Traditional skateboards that are not electric have only three basic parts; the deck, the wheels, and the trucks, which connect the wheels to the skateboard and allow the rider to maneuver forward, backward, left and right.

Regardless if the skateboard is electric and motorized or traditional, safety gear like a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist pads should always be used by the skateboarder.
